What is the STAC Institute?
A three-week intensive experience that provides personal instruction, hands-on activities and practice with peer review, all with a focus on key elements of effective teaching in middle and high schools
Participants enroll in two graduate courses:
- LAE 5932 (07) Classroom Management and Safety
- LAE 5932 (08) Effective Instructional Strategies
- Lesson and unit planning
- Integration of technology
- Assessment
- Needs of diverse learners
Important Reminder: Participants are reminded to check with the Florida Department of Education for exact course work you need for professional certification.
Please return the STAC Application to the Department of Middle and Secondary Education. Selection begins April 27, 2007.

Teachers with alternative certification, and individuals who are seeking a career change into teaching

What can I expect? What are the outcomes?
Through reading, discernment and practice— which are video recorded for your personal review — your teaching methods will improve and you will have fresh lesson plans and classroom management alternatives ready for the fall.

What Specific Topics Will Be Covered?
All participants will enroll in two graduate courses:
- LAE 5932 (07) - Special Topics: General Methods of Instruction
- LAE 5932 (08) - Special Topics: Special Methods for Specific Disciplines
These courses meet the general methods and special methods categories on the Florida Statement of Eligibility Form for Professional Teacher Certification.
General Methods course topics include:
- classroom management
- lesson and unit planning
- integration of technology
- assessment
Special methods course topics include individualized support for lesson design and professional exploration in:
- sciences
- English/language arts
- mathematics
- social studies
- ESOL and secondary reading
