Video


Annenberg Media distributes educational video programs with coordinated Web and print materials for the professional development of K-12 teachers. Annenberg Media's multimedia resources help teachers increase their expertise in their fields and assist them in improving their teaching methods. Many programs are also intended for students in the classroom and viewers at home. All Annenberg Media videos exemplify excellent teaching.

Archive's Moving Images library of free movies, films, and videos contains thousands of digital movies which range from classic full-length films, to daily alternative news broadcasts, to videos of every genre uploaded by Archive users. Most of these movies are available for download.

YouTube: popular video sharing website where users can upload, view and share video clips. It was developed in 2005. Though the site is not specifically targeting academic topics, you can still find some useful resources there either for your courses or to get a quick intro to some popular technologies, e.g. Web 2.0. Use a search function within the site. Please note that some of those clips can be used as teaching resources and starting points to initiate class discussions Some examples:

VideoJug - Life Explained On Film is a large collection of professional and amateur video tutorials, how-to videos and advice. Users may submit questions as well as video answers. You can learn how to make sushi and dance salsa. However, it has a large selection of education related 'how to's' in math, languages, sciences, special education, etc.

HotChalk offers video archives to teachers and students of all grades and subjects, to supplement textbook learning with primary source multimedia content. Its digital curriculum resource has more than 5,000 video and print resources, giving teachers access to current events and historical archives. Science students can watch footage of the polar ice caps melting into the ocean. History students can witness the march on Washington, and see interviews with civil rights leaders.

Archive's audio and MP3 library contains over a hundred thousand free digital recordings ranging from alternative news programming, to Grateful Dead concerts, to Old Time Radio shows, to book and poetry readings, to original music uploaded by the site users. Many of these audios and MP3s are available for free download. Please browse by categories (note the podcasts tab!).

Educational podcasts network includes a variety of resources for Science, Mathematics, Elementary grades, Computer/Tech, English Language Arts, Foreign Languages, Secondary School, and other areas.

Podcast directory for educators, schools and colleges has over 400 carefully selected podcast channels for educational use.

Podcast directory that apparently has 2166 podcasts covering learning and instruction.

Podcasting directory contains podcasts of about 40 categories.

iTunes has thousands of podcasts all in one place.

Yahoo audio resources

Podcast Alley is the podcast portal featuring the best Podcast Directory and the Top 10 podcasts, as voted on by the listeners. You can browse by about a dozen genres, including education.

Open-Access Text Archive is an open collection of resources and links to libraries and e-books. While browsing that site, do not overlook education resources.

Technology Institute Launches Open Educational Resource
The Monterey Institute of Technology and Education has launched HippoCampus, a website designed to supplement learning for high school and college students in order to assist with credit recovery and home schooling, as well as AP and general ed use. HippoCampus is an open education resource and is available free of charge to all users.
