Barbara Foorman

Ph.D., Francis Eppes Professor of Education, CERDS and FCRR

Barbara Foorman is the Francis Eppes Professor of Education in the college's department of childhood education, reading and disability services and director of the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University. An internationally recognized scholar in the areas of reading and language development, Dr. Foorman brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the College of Education. Her distinguished background includes cross-linguistic research in Japan, Mexico and England, and research in the areas of reading, language development, spelling, phonemic awareness and vocabulary, and she has more than 100 publications in the areas of reading and language development. She also serves on the editorial board for several journals and national advisory committees, is a principal investigator on major federal grants in her areas of expertise and has led government-sponsored literacy efforts at every level-from city to federal. Additionally, Dr. Foorman has led several reading centers that provide professional development and technical assistance to school districts in Texas, Florida, and the eastern seaboard. Barbara Foorman received a Ph.D. in Education (Language and Reading Development) from the University of California Berkeley, a M.A.T. in Language Arts and Reading from Harvard University, and a B.A. in English Literature from Stanford University.
