Visual Disabilities Bachelor's Degree

Students at the undergraduate level are preparing to be teachers of children, ages birth-21 and their families. Under certain circumstances, individuals may add the courses that lead to an additional specialization in teaching orientation and mobility. (In Florida and in many other states, orientation and mobility specialists who work with children through the schools must also possess the credential to teach students with visual impairments.) Students moving to other states with an undergraduate degree in Visual Disabilities from FSU rarely have trouble obtaining a teaching credential in their new state.

Admission to the undergraduate program requires the following:

Completion of an AA Degree or basic studies
Acceptance by The Florida State University
A 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale during the first two years of college

For full time students, the undergraduate program requires at least 4 semesters on campus (which includes one summer) and a semester of student teaching, which is often accomplished outside of Tallahassee. Therefore, most people complete their undergraduate degree program in two calendar years.

While exceptions occasionally are made, it is advisable for students to begin their studies during the summer or fall semesters.
