Comprehensive Examination |

Students
who earn the course type degree must complete a Comprehensive Exam that has
three (3) parts. One part is a four-hour in-house written exam taken near the
completion of the degree. For the second part, students have a choice of 3
research options: Developmental, Classroom, or Library Research Project. This
part should be planned early during coursework with the supervisory
committee. At the conclusion of the first two parts of the Comprehensive
Exam, each candidate will arrange f or the third part, a one-hour culminating
dialogue with the supervisory committee.

Students
may substitute a thesis for 6 semester hours of coursework. Guidelines for

Supervisory
Committee:
Before
the completion of 12 semester hours of coursework, each student must request
a major advisor and supervisory committee, plan a program of study which
meets the requirements outlined above, and file paperwork to the Office of
Student Services, 108 Stone. Each program is individually designed based upon
student’s
background and
interests and must have the approval of the supervisory committee.
The
master's committee is composed of three graduate faculty members, two of whom
are members of the Elementary Education program faculty. The major advisor
shall be a member of the Elementary Education faculty listed below:
