About us
The College of Education Alumni Association is organized to serve four purposes:
- Provide alumni an opportunity to maintain a life-long association with the College;
- Provide a framework for alumni with common interest to meet formally or informally for educational, professional and other alumni-oriented purposes;
- Provide an advisory service to the College of Education and alumni; and
- Stimulate continued interest in and financial support for the FSU College of Education and its students.
Communications efforts for the college as a whole are intensifying, and plans are underway to keep alumni and friends better informed of not only events held in their honor, but of outstanding faculty and students, changes within the College, and research that will change the face of education in the state and nation. If you are interested in receiving news in the form of mailings and emails, please update your contact information with the FSU Alumni Association. If you are interested in serving as an alumni advisor to the college, send us an email containing your full contact information.
Every graduate of the College of Education becomes a member of the COE Alumni Association (COEAA).
History
The COE Alumni Association was formed in 1975 by Dr. Herbert Reese, professor in Educational Leadership, who served as the executive secretary and editor of the Education News newsletter for eight years. The association was developed to provide an opportunity for College of Education alumni to continue their relationship with the COE.
Through his leadership, a board of directors of the association was organized which included a president and president-elect, and it was under this initial organization that the Homecoming Brunch was established as an annual event. The group also concentrated some of its efforts on fundraising to increase the resources available to students.
Over the years, changes have occurred in the association's structure to maximize its effectiveness and the benefits to alumni. Currently, alumni relations is overseen jointly by the COE's offices of development and communications, with an emphasis on maintaining strong relationships between the College and its alumni and friends.
