Stone Building Renovations Update
Power Outage Scheduled for Thursday Night
Starting at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, February 21, power will be shut down for approximately one hour to work on electrical panels. The server will also be shut down, so email and other network drives will not be available during this time.- Beginning Friday (Jan 18) at 10:00 p.m., the floor mats outside of suite 215 and the corridor housing rooms 206-214 will be removed and replaced with new flooring. During mat removal, 10:00 p.m. Friday thru 7:00 a.m. Saturday, entry to the suite and rooms will be restricted. The new flooring will be installed on either Sunday (Jan 20) or Monday (Jan 21- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a scheduled University holiday). There will be minimal access restrictions during this process. Please make any necessary arrangements and notify students accordingly.
- Beginning Monday Jan 21, the construction team will begin to re-caulk the windows in the Stone Building. This work will be done from the outside of the building and should not interfere with normal business. The team expects the caulking to take 3-4 weeks to complete.
- The west parking lot (where many COE and Med School faculty and staff park) is now closed. When construction is complete (8/2008) this lot will be re-opened giving faculty/staff the same number of spots available before construction began.
- A temporary, handicap accessible corridor has been constructed through classroom 006 for access to the ground floor.
- For safety reasons, the stairwell between the north and south buildings has been closed for the duration of construction. Breezeways between buildings will remain open.
- All floors can be accessed using the exterior stairwells on the north (Academic Way side) and south (Call Street side) ends of the building. You can also use the elevator to go between floors. The elevator is located in the North building and is accessible from each level.
- For anyone concerned with the environmental impact of construction, the building committee and construction team have voiced their commitment to saving as many of our live oaks as possible. Safety fencing will be set up around the trees to prevent injury. The landscaping plans include the planting of many new trees, plants and shrubs.
- Construction of the new wing is scheduled to be completed in August 2008.
- Renovations to existing areas of the Stone Building will begin in May 2008 with a completion date of December 2008.
