Dr. Walt Wager

It has been thirty-six years since I first started working at FSU. Most of the faculty who started with me in the College of Education have either retired or are thinking about it. Today, there is a whole new generation of assistant and associate professors ready to build on FSU's reputation of producing the finest teachers and rehabilitation counselors in Florida. The blending of the Childhood Education, Reading, and Disability Services department and the Middle and Secondary Education department into the School of Teacher Education affords the College of Education new opportunities for integration and revitalization of the teacher education programs. Opportunities for new emphases in instruction, scholarship, and leadership across the subject disciplines and the grade levels that are represented by the programs within the School have been enhanced, and new energy is being generated.

I have accepted this interim position as the Director of the School of Teacher Education to help clarify a vision for the future of the School, and to develop a strategic plan to accomplish it.
During this next year the current program will go through NCATE review, and will search for a permanent director. During a time of tight budgets, we will carefully consider how to best use our resources to serve current students while we attract outstanding new students. I look forward to this challenge and to working with STE faculty. I look forward to a productive year and an exciting experience.
