Kathy S. Froelich is the Undergraduate Reading Coordinator and an
Assistant-In in English Education in the School of Teacher Education. She has
worked in the public schools in varying roles for 34 years, teaching reading,
language arts, and English language learners in middle, high school and
university settings. She has worked as a professional development specialist
throughout the country concentrating on literacy coaching. At Florida State she
coordinates the English Education orientation and advisors students in the
department.
Dr. Froelich’s research interests include literacy in content areas, literacy
coaching and reading development. She currently teaches Teaching Literacy in the
Content Areas, Teaching Second Language Learners and Teaching Reading the
Elementary School. She has co-authored two texts on coaching: The Literacy
Coach: Guiding in the Right Direction (2007) and The Literacy Leadership Team:
Sustaining and Expanding Success (due in December, 2009). In 2007 she
co-authored an article entitled “The Art and Science of Coaching” published in JoELLE and had a co-authored section in
The Literacy Principal by David Booth.
Dr. Froelich is an active member of the International Reading Association, the
Florida Reading Association, The National Council Teachers of English, the
Florida Council Teachers of English, and the American Reading Forum.
