College Ranked Among Top 50 Graduate Schools of Education in Nation

by Connie Harris

FSU's College of Education is ranked 45th in the nation for graduate schools in education by U.S. News and World Report's "2009 Edition of America's Best Graduate Schools." In addition to the College's overall ranking, five individual programs are listed in the top 25 in their respective fields.

“Our college’s rankings are a reflection of the continued outstanding work of our faculty and students, and this year’s rise is evidence of the quality of our research and training, both key components of our mission,” said Education Dean Marcy P. Driscoll.

Within the College of Education, graduate programs in the following disciplines were listed: higher education administration was ranked 18th in the nation; education policy was 19th; student counseling and personnel services was 19th; education administration and supervision was 19th; and educational psychology was 24th. Previously the Program in Higher Education had been ranked in the publication.

Several factors contribute to the rankings, issued annually in print and online. U.S. News routinely conducts surveys of graduate programs at 278 schools granting doctoral degrees. These surveys take into account aspects of the prgrams such as assessment of quality, selectivity of students, faculty resources and research activity. Data are then entered into a formula that produces a final score for each institution.
