Program Completion Requirements

Modified students must complete both Program Requirements and DOE Requirements for Level 1 Leadership Certification to be considered a Program Completer and thereby eligible for State Certification.
Once admitted to the Modified Program, the student will be assigned an advisor. The advisor will work with the student to schedule classes and work toward completing the Program of Study.

Required Courses (as of Fall 2012)

Core (27 credits)
EDA 5942 Practicum Experiences in Educational Leadership (3)
The Practicum course integrates DOE requirements of experiential learning through field experiences, school-based mentoring from an expert in the field, and the Florida School Leaders website for professional development for aspiring school leaders. While all courses are online, the Practicum course incorporates one mandatory Face-to-Face Orientation prior to beginning the program.  Information on the Face-to-Face Orientation follows the formal admissions letter.

EDA 5423 Data Driven School Improvement (3)
EDA 5931 Planning Effective Instruction (3)
EDA 5504 Instructional Leadership (3)
EDA 5219 Resource Management for Educational Leaders (3)
EDA 5503 The Principalship (3)
EDA 5232 Legal Aspects (3)
EDA 5191 Leadership for Diversity (3)
ePortfolio (0 credits)
EDA 8966 or 8967 Comprehensive ePortfolio (0)
Consists of three components
  Presentation of the Leadership Development Plan
  Reflection on field experiences
  Conceptual Connections Paper

Certification Requirements

The final checklist to be eligible for Level I Educational Leadership Certification includes:

  • Mastery of all leadership standards, competencies and skills demonstrated through the critical tasks integrated across the core courses
  • ESOL Requirement
  • Passing score on all three subtests of the Florida Educational Leadership Examination
  • Completion of the required Field Experiences along with the Mentoring Initiative
