The Center for Physical Cultural Studies brings
together scholars from within the College of
Education and across the Florida State University
campus to advance the study of sport and physical
culture (i.e., the cultural aspects of the active, moving
body) as important features of contemporary society.
The Center provides a collaborative focal point from
which faculty and students in sport management,
education, communication, sociology and the
medical sciences can explore how cultures of the
moving body—as produced in various sport, athletic,
and performance-based contexts—create identity,
power and knowledge, equality and inequality,
disparate health outcomes and opportunity and
limitations for various populations.
